A four steps treatment
The
“Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation Research Center” is a science and
technology cooperation between the Chinese Traditional Medical Science
Academy and Cerebral Palsy Research Center.
It is
formed by Chinese Medical Science Academy experts among whom there are
Chinese Traditional Medicine, Acupuncture, Massage, Rehabilitation
specialists. These experts have been researching and treating cerebral
palsy children for several years. In the process of their studies they
have been assimilating the essence of the several thousand years of
Chinese Traditional Medicine and at the same time the modern
rehabilitation techniques, arriving to develop a four steps treatment
for C.P. that consists in: Nerves repairing, Chinese Traditional
Medicine treatment, Modern Rehabilitation Techniques, Parents’
Rehabilitation Guidance.

Biotechnological therapy

Ⅱ.
Traditional Chinese Medicine unique treatment
1.
Chinese medicine therapy dredge
Chinese
Medicine is mainly using oral medicine and fumigation methods.
Fumigation can obtain spasticity release; dredge the main and
collateral channels in the human body through which vital energy,
blood and nutriment circulate and activate extravasated blood.
Chinese
and other kinds of medicine and treatment cooperate, going through the
barrier of the blood inside the brain, having a direct effect on the
brain cells and obtaining in this way a “root-tip” (symptom-cause)
double treatment effect.
2.
Small knife needle for therapy
This
treatment is the result of a long time clinical practice conducted
inside our therapy research lab, which sums up in a new kind of
treatment for C.P. children. This treatment is simple, with minimal
damage and has significant effect on releasing muscle spasticity.
Indication: poor head control in children with cerebral palsy,
spasticity in lower limbs, ‘scissors’ gait, inability of bending the
legs, joints flexion and so on.
3.
Living water acupuncture treatment
It is
also known as the point injection therapy. It is a treatment of
diseases by choosing some Chinese or Western drugs and injecting them
into specific points of the human body. On the basis of acupuncture
acupoints, unites the pharmacological effects of drugs. It is a double
stimulation organically integrated that gives full play to an overall
more efficient treatment. This kind of treatment has a good effect
on C.P. children with cerebellar hypoplasia, mental retardation,
movement disorders, muscular atrophy, and so on.
4.
Acupuncture treatment
It is
the therapy that uses different acupuncture stimulations such as:
scalp acupuncture, body acupuncture, ear acupuncture, needle point,
magnetic circular needle acupuncture and so on.
This
method has a significant effect in C.P. children, dredging the main
and collateral channels in the human body through which vital energy,
blood and nutriment circulate and activating extravasated blood.
Moreover it improves the limbs motor function.
5.
Meridian-guided
therapy
It
is a painless treatment with no use of drugs or needles and that has
‘no side effects’.
Used to
further develop the effect of acupuncture and massage, it is based on
the theory of electron dynamic balance of yin and yang, and on the
theory of Chinese acupuncture and massage which try to forcefully ease
the balance inside the network of passages through which vital energy
is circulating inside the human body.
6.
The hammer-magnetic meridian therapy
Use of
a special magnetic hammer, knocking on the meridians, acupoints, in
order to dredge the main and collateral channels in the human body
through which vital energy, blood and nutriment circulate and activate
extravasated blood.
This
treatment has also the effect of strengthening the spleen and stomach,
of tonifying the kidneys and producing marrow; it can promote the
communication in the nerves conducts, improve the movement function of
the limbs. This treatment gathers up the effectiveness of acupuncture,
massage and magnetic therapy all over the body.
7.
Magnetic resonance, computerized IF
therapy
Through
IF electric current and magnetic field, in the part of the body struck
by illness, blood circulation can be improved, nerves conducts
regulated, spasticity in the muscles released, limbs motor function
improved.
8.
Massage therapy
Massage
is an important way to treat children with C.P. because it has the
effect of balancing “yin and yang”, clearing up the meridians,
revitalizing pent-up blood, easing the joints from contractures. The
way in which we use massage in our Center is different from other
“Chinese schools”.
We
implement it according to the knowledge correlated with the Chinese
Medical meridian theory, massage theory, modern neurophysiology,
kinematics and we find it having special curative effects on children
with C.P.
Ⅲ.
Modern
rehabilitation techniques
1.
Physiotherapy (PT)
It is a
kind of exercise therapy that provides diagnoses, treatment and
prevention. According to the neurological development theory, the
purpose of P.T. is to restrain abnormal reflex activity, promote the
arising of normal movement, improve motor function, correct abnormal
posture and promote physical mobility.
2.
Occupational Therapy(OT)
It is a
therapy that aims to rehabilitate the patient functions. O.T. tries to
improve the motor skills of the upper limbs, the dexterity of the
hands’ movement and the activity daily living capacity of a patient.
According to the patient different needs, O.T. designs and implements
special exercises related to daily living, occupational labor or
cognitive activities in order to ease symptoms and improve ability.
3.
Speech Therapy (ST)
Cerebral palsy is a non progressive brain damage caused by a variety
of reasons. Besides presenting a central neuromotor dysfunction, about
3 / 4 of the C.P. children have also, in different degrees, some
language problems. S.T. provides exercise training to improve language
and communication skills and to cope with tongue functional and sound
articulation problems (anarthria).
Ⅳ.
Family
Rehabilitation guidance
Rehabilitation experts implement a systematic and pertinent
rehabilitation technical training to the parents of the children to
allow them to correctly and effectively provide rehabilitation to
their children. In accordance with the rehabilitation condition of the
child, they offer to the parents a timely and new rehabilitation
techniques’ guidance.
This
method allows the child to really get the most correct and most timely
rehabilitation therapy needed.
This
kind of approach on the one hand can help to consolidate the
effectiveness of rehabilitation therapy, on the other hand, stresses
the need to keep an eye on the time the child is outside formal
rehabilitation classes, in which postures and abnormal movements need
to be corrected and restrained and the child needs to be guided to
master different activity daily living capacities and learn how to
manage the relations to be built with others.
The advantages of a
“four step treatment” method
The “four steps
treatment” is a method that takes the essence of Chinese Traditional
Medicine and unites it with the modern rehabilitation techniques.
At the present time, inside and outside
China, it represents the most effective way to treat C.P.,
hyperkinesia, spasms (convulsions) and epilepsy.
This kind of new
approach to treat C.P., needs a relatively brief period of treatment,
has fast effectiveness and clear results.
